legislative advocacy for gun safety measures
We continue to meet with state legislators and track proposed FL firearm related legislation. The 2020 session opens Jan. 14th but there hasn’t been any movement on gun safety issues despite the fact that all 18 bills introduced in the Senate support gun safety and 13 of 19 bills introduced in the House promote safety measures: common sense legislation that aligns with our legislative priorities to
1) expand Risk Protection Orders allowing family & household members to appeal to courts to have firearms removed from those deemed a threat to themselves or others,
2) expand background checks and
3) strengthen safe firearm storage requirements.
